About Us

History

Judo International was founded in 2004 as a centre of excellence for the development of judo through international exchange.

Club founder, Peter Middleton lived in Japan for 6 years between 1998 and 2003 during which time he developed a strong friendship with Mr Hisashi Tsuboi (7th Dan), then Head Coach of Komazawa University high School Judo Club and senior member of the Tokyo High School Judo Association. The two found that they had a common dream of having their own judo club and from this grew the idea of developing a training centre in Perth.

Peter established the training centre in Osborne Park upon his return to Perth in 2004 with Mr Tsuboi as club patron. His goal is to develop judo in Perth to an Olympic level through international judo exchange.

Senior Instructor

Peter Middleton is a former British Open Champion and was a member of the British National Team for 10 years, representing Great Britain in a number of tournaments including the Jugaro Kano Cup in Japan, the European Championships and the American Open. He has 45 years of experience practicing, competing and coaching judo throughout the world.

Vision

Our vision is to become the leading judo training centre in the Southern Hemisphere.

To achieve this we aim to:

  • Create a facility where members can train with judo players from around the world.
  • Offer a range of classes for all ages and levels so that it is possible for anyone to enjoy the benefits of judo.
  • Have a positive and friendly atmosphere that promotes health, well being, self-confidence and respect for others.
  • Encourage all members to reach their own personal goals through commitment and hard work.
